Lawang Sewu (translated as the Thousand Doors) is one of the most beautiful building in Indonesia. It was built on the early 20th century by the Dutch as an office. Around 40's, the Japan turns the office into a torturing place. No wonder that this place is also famous as the most haunted place in Indonesia. Brrrr...
My mind goes on a time travel whenever I enter this grand building. There is something in the air that makes me feel a bit melancholic- in a good way. The identical doors and huge windows neatly line-up creating a magnificent view and a feeling of orderly. I can even picture a busy crowd working, walking, chattering, and saying hi to each other several years ago. The air is still fulfilled by their spirit. It's everywhere and makes it feel warm, yet, gloomy..

In such a large building, we can always find a little surprise such as this homey little door at the rooftop of the building: it's my favorite!
