A Poem for My Almost-Birthday-and-Getting-Older

*****

Which do you think it was?
A boat beneath a sunny sky,
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July--

Children three that nestle near,
eager eye and willing ear,
pleased a simple tale to hear--

*****

*****

Long has paled that sunny sky:
Echoes fade and memories die.
Autumn frosts have slain July

*****

*****

Still she haunts me, phantomwise,
Alice moving under skies
Never seen by waking eyes.

Children yet, the tale to hear,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Lovingly shall nestle near.

*****

*****

In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die:

Even drifting down the stream--
Lingering in the golden gleam--
Life, what is it but a dream?

(Lewis Caroll at the end of Through the Looking Glass)

A Memorabilia: Snaphot of Serenity

*****

"You and I, like the summer breeze of Northern Sky.
Oh, do you still remember?
Look outside, and hear the birds are singing just for us."
( Snapshot of Serenity-Ballads of the Cliche)*

The sun shines gently, the skies are blue, the lingering white puffy cotton cloud up above, the breeze on the top of the tree, the chattering birds, the greenery lays there just before our eyes, the picnic, the comfort, somewhere in-between, the glimmering sunset, and the beloved one by my side. It's the idea of a perfect day for me.

I remember that day, back in 2007, me and Dito went to one of our regular 'nowhere trip' and end up at this beautiful spot where the world seem to freeze in its most tranquil moment. The second I browse this old photo stock, it feels like finding an old memorabilia, a snapshot of serenity. Just like the one in the song*.

I can still recall the happiness, the ambiance, the music of the river below our boat, the sweet lemony smell of the grass, and the taste of that perfect day. The food taste better, the hot chocolate we made was so delicate, the trip was perfect, and the end of the day is heartbreaking~ we both want to steal the moment forever, the sun went down anyway.

I remember that one perfect dress that's just so comfortable and pretty in the same time. The very same dress I wear over and over again during 2007-2008 until it ends up in a garage sale in mid 2009. A pretty girl found the dress and keeps it tightly with her as if it was a treasure. I'm sure my dress is happily beloved by her whoever she is. I want to see the dress at least once again, anyway.

And, oh, the perfect day!

Day like this, is the reason why am I becoming the Picnic Girl at the first place. Lucky for me, these past few days are just as perfect as this day I just found in my memorabilia folder. I don't even care if the photos wasn't that good; its power of bringing up the good memories is all I care about :)

Oh, what a pretty day! I just can't stop humming..

Steal the Look: Heidi and Clara

*****

The dearly beloved Heidi and sweet Clara are the object of our affection this time. The sun-kissed Heidi with her cheerful free spirit surely captured our heart since we were first introduced: on the storybook "Heidi". She's a childhood heroine who's befriend with fluffy lambs, the alps, and everything close to the nature. Clara, her best friend is also dearly in a more lady-like manner. Their friendship is sweet like the alps' breeze in the evening and warm like the morning sun. How could picnic girls like us not loving her?!

DreaMiy the Picnic Girl’s 2010 Wish List

(More Picnic, More Sleep)

I do need more vacation and picnic (just can't have enough of them). It's one of the essences of my happiness in life. As for sleeping, I really need to get enough sleep, unless I'll soon ruin my complexion and having this Garfield eyes all over again. Oh, and more water too!

(Longer hair)
When I was younger, my father forbade me to cut my hair short. I always have to keep it as long as I can maintain. So, my first teenage-rebellion act was cutting my hair really short when I was in the high school. My dad hated it. When I was back to my senses, I keep trying to keep my hair long but I just can’t stand it so I’ll keep cutting it short over and over again. I promise, this year would be different. I will have a long hair with a healthy wavy end by the end of this year, even if it means that I have to do my homework well: hair treatment. You know I can do it, right?!

*****

(Ankle Boots and Lace Bunny Ears)

I want them and I want it now. I shall have those by the end of this month. Which reminds me, it’s almost my birthday! Yay!

*****

(Searching for Balance in Bali)

Not taking my contemplative break after my graduation is one of my biggest mistakes last year. I seem to keep losing my track and jumping into the rabbit holes all over again. This time, I’m going to make it up. As what I’ve learned in “Eat, Pray, and Love”, Bali is the most reasonable place to find balance and contemplate for a while. So be it.

(A Job in the Wonderland)
My adventures in the wonderland last year show me how I enjoy working in the creative industry and that’s why I keep jumping into the rabbit holes, in this case, in the field of art and fashion. My dream land is actually located on the field of literature, but I seem to keep jumping in the other fields and surprisingly, I enjoy it. This year, I should get a ‘real’ job in the Wonderland.

(Room Makeover)
My café just got a makeover and I love it. I always love the feeling of freshness and novelty after cleaning up, reorganize, and makeover a room. My rooms (in my house and in my café) are both messy and discouraging, and to start a new brighter future, I need a massive room makeover. Yay!

*****

(Underwater Fashion Photo)
Underwater fashion photo is whimsical and has always been my dream since I saw the work of Elena Kalis. I need one this year for this blog.

(My very own Lula Magazine)
Lula is said to be the magazine for grownup girl who believe in fantasies and whimsical things. I'm coveting for this magazine ever since and it's been a year pass. I have never actually find one and it become my 2010 resolution!

(Little Book of the Picnic Girl)

It’s a personal project and I’m not going to spoil it now. Just wait and see. ;)

A Smile and Flower Petals

*****

One day, I was asked to help ‘coloring’ my friend’s face for a photo project. The concept is that she needs to look really white it almost pale and she has to have this yellow hair. From where I come from, the beauty standard (or may I say, propaganda) consist of having white clear skin, long straight black hair, and it’s a plus to have a Western look; and so the photo concept should show how white can be so pale and the yellow hair should accentuate that. I should also draw her face like a marionette or even a clown. So, as soon as I get the brief concept, I grab this tacky hair-coloring spray and white body-painting.

Then again, I’m not a gifted painter and I prefer blushing shade of pink on the rough white face-paint than clash it with black clown face. The girly white-and-pink shade should also be followed by a smile on her face, so I draw a smile. Anyway, smile is an accessory that never goes out-of-date, even if it was only painted. ;p

On the second round, I choose to emphasize the yellow color by applying real Chrysanthemum petals on her eyelid and she stresses out the point by wearing a yellow glasses. I love it. A girl, a smile, and pretty flower~ what else could I ask for, right?

In the end, the concept stays where it was: as a concept. Kinan, the model, indeed looks pale in white but I personally like the color: a pretty girl in pastel pink and yellow shade. I like it.
