Twisting Stems of Rosebuds

Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair.
Susan Polis Shutz

*****

Right after my flower-crown-making lesson by Mr.Palm, I went straightly home and refresh my crafting mood (that only occur once before, here). I wanted a more durable flower crown ,so, I opt to buy satin flowers instead of picking up some fresh buds. I also want it to be versatile so I choose white (white is my favorite color, by the way). An hour later, I already made two crowns: the full buds and the more nymph-like one. It's really easy, you can make it yourself and add up bows, laces, pearls, or anything that you like!

*****

First, gather as many flowers as you can get; choose ones with long and strong stalks. In this part, I suggest you to buy some satin or plastic flowers instead for the sake of durability and for not ruining the life of real flowers.

*****

Take two flowers and twist the stems tightly. Add more flowers and tighten the twist, make sure it won't break easily. The gap between each flowers is depend on what kind of flower crown you'd like to make.

*****

Add more flower in the same way twisting around itself until it's long enough to go round your head. When you're sure it's long enough, bring each end together, twist them tightly one another. Bond the ends tightly using a wire of the satin flower stalk. Voila! There goes the full bud flower crown!

*****

For a more nymph-like flower crown, you can make a simpler version by giving a gap between each flower like this one above. Easybitsy!

The Fairy Tea Party and Mr.Palm

*****

Once upon a cloudy day, I was wandering around the forest, trying to find the perfect spot for my picnic. You see, my uncle just borrowed me his antique Chinese-tea picnic set and it's adorable! It must have been at least fifty years old and I love the red flowery pattern all over it.

Previously, it was a tea set for two, but the other cup just broken and now there's only one teacup and one teapot inside that picnic bag. For a strange unexplainable reason, my uncle place several marbles inside the blank space instead of replacing the broken cup. Curiouser and curiouser I kept asking why, but he soon hush me away and set me a boiling Autumn tea, put them inside the basket ("it keeps them warm", he said), and suggest me to find a solitary spot deep in the forest to enjoy my tea. His oddness puzzles me so I just do what he told me to do: tea-picnic on the forest.

The air was cool and moist; the grass was soft and lush. I wonder through the pathless wood, get lost in the chirping sound of the bird and the soft trail of the butterflies. Ah! The butterflies remind me of my fairy friends at the center of the forest. There's a patch of the meadow where the fairy ring took place. I believe that my dear friend, Lueia, loves Autumn Tea very much. So I rush to the center of the forest and found them there. Lueia, Bendlynn, Pailette, and the twin Flote and Forst were there. They invite me to enter the ring (otherwise, you couldn't find the location yourself). We share the autumn tea (for they only need a few drops) and they told me the latest stories about the wood (the oldest daughter of Mrs. Owl just had her babies; the rabbits has several new holes for their enlarging families; Miss Lilyya the porcupine just had a little accident and Flote-Forst are helping her out with her housework; and many more amusing stories).

A minute later, another bell rings and Lady Marienkafer is approaching. She is the lady of the forest fairies and she just got back from her daily inspection of the pine trees. She is a nice little lady fairy but she's a bit stiff and was too prim-and-proper as a forest fairy. Just before joining our little tea party, she told me that next time I should really put on a flower crown every time I want to enter the ring. It is one thing I keep forgetting but it's impolite not to wear one. So this time, I promise them it will be my last time entering the ring without my flower crown on. Lady Marienkafer is pleased by my promise and later she shows an interest on my picnic basket in particular. She simply loves to sit on it with the warm smell of the autumn tea.

"The thing is, I don't know how to make a flower crown, Lady Marienkafer..", I told her shyly.
"Oh, that's easy, my child.. You can ask Mr.Palm to teach you. He's a gifted craftsman and surely, he'd love to help"
"How can I find him, my Lady?"
"Now..now.. That’s the problem. He lives miles away from here, my child..", replied Lady Marienkafer

"But My Lady, look! She has the White Marbles, you see.. We can always teleport her using the power of the White Marbles", suggest my dear Lueia.
"Brilliant! Do you really want to go and learn, my child?", Lady Marienkafer asked me.
"Yes! Please do, you can use as much White Marble you need. I know my uncle wouldn't mind. I'd really like to learn", I replied.
"Ohoho.. don't worry, dear.. one single White Marble is strong enough to transport you anywhere", replied Bendlyyn.

And soon, all I know is they already lift me up and transport me to the other side of the forest using the power of the White Marble. I arrived safe and sound to the residence of the gifted crown maker: Mr. Palm.

Out of the mid-wood's twilight
Into the meadow's dawn,
Ivory limbed and brown-eyed,
Flashes my Faun!
He skips through the copses singing,
And his shadow dances along,
And I know not which I should follow,
Shadow or song!
O Hunter, snare me his shadow!
O Nightingale, catch me his strain!
Else moonstruck with music and madness
I track him in vain!
(Oscar Wilde- In the Forest)

Mr. Palm is sweet gentleman who lives with his palm family and a chatty baby-toad pet called Edel, who lives inside a plastic glass. Mr. Palm flatters me in a sweetest way imaginable and allows me to sit on the rock in front of him. That's where everyone learns his famous crown making technique. He has made a promise to only craft flower crowns for the fairies and that's why the only way I can have mine is by learning from him.

As a return, I gave him one of my White Marble that I thought would be beneficial for him. You see, he simply can't go anywhere and the fairies are his only hope if he wants to travel all around the forest. Now with the power of the White Marble, he can move from one place to another rather easily. We spend the next several hours chatting and learning the step-by-step of flower crown making technique until the sun almost set and it's time for me to go home.

*****

*****

Another White Marble used for the fairies to transport me straight to the edge of the forest. That way, I will be home on time. As soon as I got home, my uncle checks his marbles and he smiles.

"No wonder you get home on time", he said.
"But..You know?", I asked.
"Psst.. it's our little secret. I'm a grown up. I shouldn't believe in such nonsense. But in fact, I've used them myself too when I was younger", he replied.

And now I share you the little secret, my dear reader. Pssst.. Please don't tell anyone, will you?

The Rainbow Trail

*****

Shh.. Can you hear that? The sprinkling mizzling drizzling rain is secretly slinking, along with the crisp peppermint wind.
(Miy, in The Lair)

*****

A day before, it was raining all day long in my city. I do love the rain, but, my Cupsy Dupsy thinks that rainy day keeps people from coming to our place. Well, it was a really heavy rain anyway, with thunder and lightings, and the wind, and the cat-and-dog raindrops. Nobody went to Cups. In fact, nobody leave the house either. Every car passing the street seem to be in such a hurry to get back home, not to mention the cyclist, motorcycle rider, and people who walks on the sidewalk. Oh, little do they know that a cup of Cinnamon Honey and a conversation with a friend are perfect for spending a rainy day at Cups. Cups loves a lingering conversation floating gently in the air, and that specific rainy day, there was no conversation at all.

But, that was the day before..

*****

*****

This day, a little magic happen!

The gray rainy day left a trail of rainbow footsteps in front of Cups. The trail was approaching toward the door and leave; as if it was walking into the cafe and leave after awhile. Well, I can't help but wondering. Maybe it was an invisible rain God who secretly walk into my little Cups, spend the grey rainy day in the warmth of Cupsy Dupsy with a troop of raindrops. Maybe, that's why nobody seems to have any conversation in Cups on that grey rainy day. Maybe, there was actually a secret conversation held by the invisible rain God and his troop and only the gentlest ear could hear. Maybe, we were just misunderstood the conversation to be the sound of the thunder and the heavy rain. Maybe..

But it wasn't so secret anymore when a day after the heavy rain, the sun shines shyly, revealing the little secret in the form of rainbow footsteps in front of Cups. Well done, Sun! If that was it, we don't mind having no lingering conversation in Cups on a heavy rainy day, because we know, maybe the rain God and the raindrops themselves were having fun in our cafe. <3!>

Dito and I now can skip along the colorful trails and pretending to be the rain God who plays follow-the-leader with the raindrops. Yippiee!

Picnic on the Darker Side

*****

Yeah!

It's Miy, the Picnic Girl what?! Oh, I've crossed to the dark side. No more picnic dresses, no more greenery, no more fairy tales, and say hello to the darker side of Miy! Ha-ha! *devilish laugh* I am now a Lady Rocker! Yeaaah!

.........

Really?

Of course (not)!

I'm talking a big big fat lie! :D *ha-ha* Now, it's DreaMiy talking.. I'm still the picnic girl, still the same dreamy girl inside, now and then. ;)

Anyway, I just bought this zebra skirt I mentioned on my previous outfit post and an ankle boots (finally!). This is my first ankle boots, my first animal-printed, and it's my first time I really cut my t-Shirt to make a one-shouldered top. Also, I cut the actual skirt and turn it into a mini.

That's why I dedicate a post for my new most unusual items. Instead of a cheery merry picnic photos with flowy flower-printed sundress, I opt for a Lady-Rocker lookalike in the darker hue of rustic wall (do you see those cracks?). Well, who said I can't look that tough?! It's easybitsy.. But, if you pay a close attention, you might see the detail zebra bow on my mini skirt. Yeep.. the recess fabrics is tied into a bow a la the real Picnic Girl's soul.

Since it's my first mini-animal-printed-skirt, I found it pretty hard to mix and match anything in my closet with the skirt. It was frustrating so I take my most unloved plain black T-shirt and a scissor; kresh..kresh..kresh.. and a minute latter: Voila! the perfect match for my zebra skirt. My poor black t-shirt is now beloved again. Yay!

And oh the shoes! I've been drooling over that specific pair since I first saw it at Centro. I was looking for the perfect ankle boots and nothing seem to be versatile yet delicate enough for me but this one. So I gave her a new home and love her with all my heart.

So, how do you like my unusual look? ;)

*****

*****

P.s: in case you're wondering, I haven't got the heart to wear this pairing in public. Instead, I would opt for a ruffled white shirt, black cropped jacket, girly shoes, and a headband to pair with the zebra skirt; so I can feel more myself in that not-my-regular-choice skirt. I might post the photos later on Chictopia.

Counting the Bliss

*****

“I believe as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
–the White Queen in Looking Through the Glass and What Alice Found There-

Last month, Emma, a sweet friend of mine sent me a DVD of September Issue (thank you, dear..). It’s the documentary film about the making of Vogue’s most important issue: September. September is the January in fashion, they said. The film was fabulous. Really, to watch how these people actually working is moving. Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, the team, the super skinny models, and the designers. Oh! How many of you would kill to be part of this, raise your hand! (yeep..I’m raising my hand too right now)

And guess what, as soon as I watch the movie, I went straight to Gwen –an imported magazine supplier in my city- and I specifically asked for American Vogue September issue. Just yesterday, the magazine arrived! Yaaay! It’s September 2009, super thick (584 pages of beautiful images and dreams), and it feels so powerful somehow. How I love Grace’s work.. Look at the fashion spread, it’s totally fashion fairy tale. *sigh dreamily*

As if the magic of the day is not enough, my dearest took me to watch the premier of Alice in Wonderland! *I’m amazed* It’s so magical in a way that I never at once guessed that this movie will be available in my city so soon, and I didn’t anticipate yesterday as the d day of the premier. In case you’re wondering, the movie wasn’t exactly the one from the book but the magic and some quotes remain. It’s beautiful, whimsical, and well, it’s Alice! If Wendy is the one I’m referring when I think about love; and The Little Price about philosophic thought of happiness and my ‘self’; it’s always Alice who makes me think of my own future. From now on, whenever I see a blue butterfly, I’ll remember the Wonderland too. You see, I always ready to jump into the rabbit hole. ;) I do have that tendency.
