Evita Nuh: a Fashionable Juxtapose

When I first stumble upon her blog, I was amazed by how she dresses herself up. 'Quirky' is the first word that came across. I can't believe she was still 10 y.o. (Gosh..what was I wearing when I was her age, we'd better forget) Even the way-too-long-to-be-a-title title of her blogpost got me wondering did she really work on this by herself?

She was still 10 and she wrote a long title like "Life is like a rainbow, you need both the sun and the rain to make it colors appear" or "Four things a woman should know: How to look like a girl, How to act like a lady, How to think like a man, And how to work like a dog" and yes..they were blog titles, not the first sentence of the post.

Then I realize, although her sense of style is already grown ahead her age, she's still a little girl. In that post, just like the nature of a kid, she is cheerful and colorful. She even still has a nanny..she's a little girl who instead of dressing up her Barbie, prefer to dress herself up. That is both scary and impressive.

Discussions about her fashion sense and her age rise here and there. In which she wisely confirm that she's not yet decide anything. She loves fashion and photography now but she still has a long long way to go. A long post about that in "come to my wonderland". This time, she carries an unusual wisdom for a children her age (she's 11 by then). But, contrasting to her writing, she dress herself up as Alice and plays part as a child. Later I realize.. maybe it's not a juxtapose this time. Alice is a representation of a child growing up in her own way. Just like Evita Nuh.

In her photos, we can see that she is growing up and so does her sense of fashion. I remember stumbling upon a child's world of wonder when she played with crazy makeup, making up stories about the weather fairy, combining outfit photo-post with her childish drawing, and more 'serious' play such as dressing up as four ladies and the time when she dress herself up as both a boy and a girl in the same photo.

In terms of her fashion, only in one year she could have a completely different way to respond to things. I noted a way she responded to floral print in 2009 is so different with the way she responded a year later. She can play edgy in a time and at the other time chooses girly dancer-off-duty as her muse. As I recall, she dances a lot in her photos and that brings her back to her inner child. Even when it comes to her life, it's also a wonderland. I mean, learning to fly, holiday in a scenic places, and a dash of unusual-wisdom here and there.

A fashion potential that is already shine brightly contrasting her age as well as her wisdom in her world of wonder. A fashionable juxtapose, I might say.

..is where your heart belongs..

when a person is away from home, does it strengthen a sense of belonging, albeit long distance, and a perseverance to maintain cultural ways?

I just spent the weekend home. I miss my family so much already so as soon as I arrived, all I want is to be together again, lounging with them in the old couch, chat, and eat all the familiar homemade cooking. The very familiar smell of my room came bursting and bring back all the Proustian memory*. Right there, I know I'm home.

When I woke up the next day, the sky was so blue and the breeze was so comforting.. I went visiting my baby Cups. Passing through all the well-known road gives me thrill. It's a bit sad when I arrived at Cups and can't find any trace of my old Cups again. Instead of being cutely turquoise, it's now masculinely black-and-brown.

It's not mine anymore, I know. I've moved on and I'll build my new dream place somewhere else. But suddenly, all the memories came approaching when I sat on the old couch- a parted pair of the sofa set we have back home. I remember the breezy St.Tropez feeling on a bright sunny day at Cups, the children who love my homemade blueberry yogurt, the baby next door, and the old man who walks really really slowly every morning and always wave his hand to everyone on the other side of the street.

Right there, I remember this line:

"..he remembered those vanished years as thought looking through a dusty window pane. The past is something he could see but not touch; and everything he sees is blurred and indistinct.."

I spent the last day home lounging again with my family, just like our Sunday morning ritual. After that, I went visiting my Shadow at my secret garden. Running around the free space without my shoes on gives me a sense of retreat. I love to feel the soft grass touching my skin, the smell of the morning greenery, the humid soil, the sound of the nature, and the remote feeling in the corner of the garden. Just right amount of recovery before going back to the concrete jungle once again.

(*) Proustian memory- elusive sense of smell, named after Marcel Proust who described how the unexpected re-encounter of the scent of Madeleine's cake unleashed vivid childhood memories of his aunt and her home in the country.

Blackbird Flies

What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well.

I am in a desert, a beautiful one. I can lay on my back upon the whispering sands and watch the pretty stars as long as I like. The wind is breezing, gently stroke my skin. Empty space around me spells freedom and tranquility. Yes, that is tranquility. I am contented..

Blackbird - The Beatles

Then I found myself flying high in the sea of twinkling stars, up and away.. Landed in a place far away from that empty desert, surrounded by the flowing sea of human, the wind stops and the sands has been perfectly compacted. I am now a blackbird.

P.S.: Since I sadly missed la fĂȘte de la musique last June, I decided to make July as my month of music. The posting in this blog will be fashion-music related and from this on I add up a soundtrack for each post. Enjoy! :D
