Time of Your Life

"There are career choices way off the beaten path,
and it’s the passion you put in it that makes it glamorous"
(Garance Dore)

*****

Do you know this feeling when life feels so secure and some kind of inner peace come bursting out? Something is telling you there's nothing to worry about and things are going to be just fine.

Life recently feels like a Sunday morning when the bird sings cheerful song, the sun rises in the most magnificent way, and you can have your morning tea as long as you want with the ones you love. Easy, breezy, and the air is sweet.

For me, that's the feeling of self-control mixed with passion and peace. I like it when things are in orders, but now I learn to do everything with passion and fun spirit instead of chasing for perfection. Dreams do come true that way and I like to watch it grow, experience it, and grow along with it.

Life recently is actually very busy. My shop is in its soft opening phase and I already met a lot of new people who are very very nice. I learn to handle multiple orders and cook many things at once by myself, which turns out to be super fun!  Most of the time I'll sweat my heart out, sometime with a twist of small panic attack; but in the end I love it so much when people enjoy my cooking and my place as much as I do. Within a week, I have to prepare the grand launching of my shop. Can't wait to meet more new people! So little time so much to do. But, guess what.. I'm having the time of my life. ;)

Plus, I guess the dry season is approaching! The rainy days stop and clear sky say hello. Smells like holiday in the sun is coming closer. Take a look at my closet's spring cleaning here.

Easy Like a Summer Day, Breezy Like Springtime!

*****

What would you do in a nice weather day?

When the morning is glorious yet very calm, the sun rises at its best and the sky is clear. When you look out of the window and daydream about a land upon that slowly floating cloud that smells like blanket under the sun. When all you want to do is jump out of the room and dance on the street, run on the prairie, roll on the grass, take a nap under the lemon tree, and find the perfect shade to read. The windchimes tinkling cheerfully and little children are selling lemonade at the yard.

What would you do in a nice weather day?

When the afternoon is beaming with golden lights, dragonflies are playfully tease you, and a little music played out of doors by someone you don't know. The air is filled with tranquility, and warm blanket of sunbeam cuddles you.

Me?

In days like that, I'd jump in my easy summerdress and breezy spring tops. I'll follow the sun, and travel to magical hidden blue and green gems.. for a picnic, of course.. The birds, the bees, the whisper in the wind, and the blooming flowers are all cheering for Summer and Spring!

*****

*****

Would you like that too?

Now, as easy as a summer day, Summer and Spring holiday shop (at Lir) is one stop shopping for your leisure needs; from holiday customized flip-flops, one-of-a-kind summer dress, hats, picnic bags, up to holiday packages!

Girls and Dolls

Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.
C.S. Lewis

*****

When I was a little girl, I don't really play with dolls. I've never been a kind of Barbie-lover girl and instead, I prefer playing with vintage-dressing paperdolls. Even when I was young, I prefer playing hide-and-seek, tug-o-war, strolling down the forest daydreaming about tree-houses and secretly wish to get kidnapped by a witch. I don't really like the stereotype of girls-dolls and boys-plastic cars; I prefer playing imaginative game of wars, market-transaction, or royal-families together with boys and girls.

As a kid, I think that dolls are just for kids and big kid like me should read books instead.. now..now..how silly is that?

It's not until I celebrate my 17th birthday, I start receiving dolls and stuffed animals as gift. Maybe, it's just like that C.S.Lewis quote, someday we'll be old enough to love dolls once again. Somehow, the collection grows and I even start sleeping with some of them now (oh, that's very unglamorous, I know! hahaha..)

*****
When the trend of wearing stuffed-animal bag occur in my school around 2003, I choose not to follow the trend. It looks like these girls are just too cute and mostly they carry similar bag (cow-shaped, dog-shaped)
Not until 8 years later, I stumble upon this raccoon bag, and I fell in love straight away! It's quirky, friendly, super-hugable, and it's just the cutest stuffed-animal bag I've ever seen! (Yep, guess now I've finally old enough to start being 'cute' again.. but, just look at that racoon's tail!!)

(it has a zipper on the back and a whimsical tiny tinkling bell!)

Ah, well.. what do you think about stuffed-animal bag as a fashion item?

I'd Say.. Mooi!

Chosing to have fun in life is often more fruitful than chasing perfection
(Garance Dore)

*****

As I mentioned in my latest post, my Lir Shop is about to be ready. Meanwhile, I'm having as much fun as I can (daydreaming and make it come true) preparing the detail for my shop. Just like last Sunday.. I held a Sunday Brunch party for my friends and family to test the food I'll serve in Mooi. Fantabulous!

The idea is.. (since Lir is a bookstore) Mooi will be a restaurant where you can find food and beverages you usually find only in the book. So you might expect to find Mother Bear's Porridge from Goldilocks story; Butterbeer from Harry Potter; Homemade Ginger Ale and Picnic Sandwich of Enid Blyton's classic; some Provençal favorites from Peter Mayle's book; Pippi Long Stocking's Pancake; Afternoon Tea Set that come straight out of Alice in Wonderland story; and we celebrate weekend real hard! Every weekend there will be fondue set to share with 4-6 friends in your Sunday Brunch and some weekend-only menus.

Next week will be the soft-opening schedule of my Lir shop (and Mooi resto) and June will be the grand opening (when Summer and Spring holiday* shop will be open for public too). Stay tuned!

{{(*) Pssst..in Summer and Spring holiday shop, we also provide holiday package where we will take you to breathtakingly beautiful places you might find in my Picnic sections.. many people asked me where do I go for my picnics.. now, we'll take you there! Interested?}}

(just like a picnic on summer days)

(Tea-party set inspired by Alice in Wonderland and Homemade Ginger Ale straight out of Enid Blyton's stories)

(Tomato Basil Pasta from Eat, Pray, and Love)

(French Toast w/ Homemade Citrus Marmalade and Apple Strudel to enjoy at the little house of the prairie)

(Chicken Divan~ my future-mother-in-law shared me her secret recipe and I style them up with tomato salad and homecut fried potato.. I prefer fresh potato than the supermarket style)

(Enjoy summer with my very own creation of Provençal Ratatouille served with Sunny Side Up Egg and expect some surprises on Fried Potato Skin! Delicious!)

So.. what say you?

I'd say.. Mooi!

Sunshine, It's a Fresh New Day!

*****

*****

May 3rd is the d-day of the second anniversary of The Picnic Girl (happy birthday my dear alter-ego!)..I promise myself to do things better here. This May also notes the fresh new start for me, personally. Some good things just came marching along and I can't stop thank God for that.

I don't usually share the detail of my personal life but this time, I can't help it, it's too exciting for me! So, I just sign a contract and will be moving to Bandung for several months at the end of this year to be a curator assistant in Selasar Sunaryo Art Space (read this and you'll understand why am I so excited!); my personal edition for Huff Magazine is due at the end of this month; my mom just got me a new travelling companion named Krilo (I hope I can present more and more picnic post, then); and the soft opening of my Lir shop is due on the third week of May (so excited for that!)

Lir shop is my new place of dream comes true. Remember how devastated I was when I sold my Cups to a friend? This time, I won't give up so easily. I start a new business with all my interest and passion in it.. Lir consist of a bookstore; an anything-homemade resto (named Mooi); a public space for art, hobby, and literature; and Summer and Spring holiday boutique. I'll try my best to make the visitor of my shop feel as if she is in one-stop-shopping for a picnic ;) I'll share the detail later.

For now, let's spend another sunny day with my dearest picnic pal, Thika of The Versicle; sharing future plans, stories, sunshine, another photoshoot (will be up next) and delicious smoothies. Let the pictures do the talk!

This green dress is one of my nice-weather-day dress.. the kind of dress I grab first thing in a breathtakingly glorious morning (like today) and sunny days.

This dress is pretty special to me: my mom got the tie-dye cloth handmade by her designer friend, then, she pass it on to me; later, I design it myself (how do you like the detail on the upper side of the dress and its flare? its so wide and breezy, that's why it suits the sunshine nicely) and my boyfriend's sister sew it on for me (she's having a new boutique called Summer and Spring at my Lir shop~ I'll announce it later in June).
