The New Years Eve

 So, what's your plan for new year's eve?

Most of my NYE was spent at home, watching the festive fireworks party with family and friends from the rooftop under the drizzle. Just my luck to live in one of the tourism spot, so, there's not much of stuck-in-the-crazy-traffic story for the sake of enjoying fireworks. Just need to drag myself off the comfy bed up to the rooftop to join the hype. ;) 

This year, the plan is even more laid-back. Instead of joining a thundering firework festival, we decide to have a movie night with friends at Lir. I (who watched too many reruns of How I Met Your Mother) believe that good friends share pizza and chicken wings; and that's how we're going to spend the NYE!

Apparently, only yesterday we received an invitation for a cocktail pre-NYE party with a special note to wear something fabulous (panic!).. Apparently, I was spending my whole week at Lir and bring nothing fancy really..except for this headpiece I got from DhieVine few weeks ago (yaay!) and just pair it with an oversize sweater.. voilaaa! I'm ready to go.

DhieVine is one of my favorite online boutique from Semarang, specialized in mixing Batik with gorgeous materials. Their products are quirky and delicately magical. This headpiece is not only made from a fine quality of batik, chiffon little flower, and tulle; but also carefully hand-crafted.

Finding Stillness: the Opening

Dito's solo exhibition, Finding Stillness, was prepared for many months and was the reason of my routine trip back and forth to Jakarta this year. 

Last week, I spent 8 days in Jakarta (with a bonus trip to Bandung with Budi) to prepare the opening reception. There were daily dramas of witnessing a lady's failed attempt to commit suicide, stolen laptop and left handphone, flooded gallery, and many more (just normal stuff that could hapen in Jakarta, you see..). But then again, the opening went smoothly and warmly. 

The week was a happy one, a yummy one, and full of love. Between the tight schedule of media tour, preparation, displaying, and eating out (yes, eating out is Dito's other job as a culinary reporter, so, it's on the schedule); we still manage to meet some friends, book shopping, and visit some exhibitions at the city. My bestie, Wid, was there along the week to support Dito while taking all these pretty snapshots and some privately-kept embarrassing pictures. Two days before the opening, I got a rare chance to write the wall text for Dito's exhibition (yay! my first art writing outside Lir Space). You can read it here.

All and all, I am so pleased that Dito mark the end of the year on a nice note by holding a solo exhibition. He totally earns it. Now, let the pictures do the talk!

A Reason to Celebrate!

The end of the Maya long count calendar has been quite a fuss lately; people start making observations, premonition, and even jokes about the doomsday. In one way I'd say..well, just come what may! In other way, I'll do a little Indian dance..getting all excited to find another reason to celebrate. 

Here's the logic: the last day is so precious and the day after what suppose to be the doomsday, you have all the reason to celebrate your survival and spend it in much better way, right? (have I mentioned that I looove celebrating things?)  

I start making a list of things to do to seize the day (dance my heart out, walk under a heavy rain in a cute raincoat, eat lava cake at night and not feeling guilty about it, and the list goes on). I start contemplating and telling people I love how much I  love them..and of course, yesterday passed in a surprisingly normal way but I'm glad it was full of love. If  I survive tomorrow, I  promise to surprise myself and do things I normally afraid to do. And if we all survive tomorrow, well.. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Every time the end of the year comes creeping in..I have a syndrome that makes me start questioning about many things in the more contemplative way. I will start making a long list about everything and take a deep long gaze inside me; trying to find all the Alice..the Little Prince..the Peter Pan..and the Wendy inside of me. Funny how I always use children storybooks as a mirror of the soul. I guess I need to start writing my own tale, live up my own book. There goes the number one in my new year resolution, I guess. :)

The Anthony's House

When I was a kid, my father used to take me on a Sunday hiking to the hill behind my house. On our way up, right on the slope of that hill, there is this dreamy house with the impressive fence, wide elf-residence like garden, and a white house in the middle of it all. I used to refer this as "The Anthony's House" (you know..that boy in Candy Candy who grows rose.. *anywaaay..) and I used to made up stories for this house. This house used to be abandoned and now it's back alive with all the renovations going on. I'm so glad! 

My abandoned house project is going on and I can't be more excited. I'll tell more about it later.

It starts to rain everyday in my city. I think I enjoy it more than usual. I mean, the excuse to wear all the sweater dress although you look kinda sturdy in it (or at least, I do), the way daily dose of hot tea/ coffee/ chocolate become a very reasonable choice, the long drive under the heavy rain when everything looks magical,  enjoyable melancholy that goes perfectly with certain songs, and the chance to dance your heart out under the rain. 

By the way, which do you prefer: rainy day or sunny day?
